A Healing Journey: Celebrating Brad at Park Health Center
November 15, 2024
Today is a special day at Park Health Center as we celebrate a true success story—Brad's journey to recovery. You may remember Brad from a previous post, and we’re excited to share just how far he’s come.
When Brad first arrived, our wound care nurse Kassandra recalls,
"He was a different person. I remember the day he was admitted—he looked so defeated. I asked him, 'Do you want to heal these wounds and get strong?' He hung his head and said, ‘yes.’ I told him it would take hard work, but that healing starts from within. And we were ready to help, with our dedicated wound care nurse practitioner, Cory Orzolek, who always goes above and beyond."
Fast forward to today, and Brad has achieved incredible progress. When he first arrived, he required a Hoyer lift; now, he stands on his own and has healed three complex wounds in just seven months! Brad shares,
“I was at other facilities like Morgantown and Wheeling, and they told me it would take a long time, especially with wounds down to the bone.” But with a combination of treatments—including IV antibiotics, wound vacs, skin grafts, protein supplements, and even a daily spoonful of peanut butter—Brad’s wounds healed in just six months.
But his journey wasn’t just about physical healing. Thanks to the incredible support from our therapy team and our in-house dietician, Sandra Fry, Brad regained his physical strength and found joy again. He fondly remembers Dr. Jao adjusting his blood pressure medications, which made a huge difference in his daily life.
Reflecting on his time here, Brad says,
“I never imagined I’d find friends in a nursing home. Being here, I got the care I needed to return home to my wife, who’s been my rock. I’m ready to watch the next Steelers game on my own TV.” As he prepares for discharge, Brad leaves us with a smile and a playful rivalry with his roommate, a die-hard Browns fan.
Please join us in celebrating Brad's journey and wishing him all the best as he returns home. From all of us at Park Health, it was truly an honor to be part of your story. Head to our Facebook page to watch a video of his journey! Facebook
