Your Healing Journey Starts Here: Park Health Center's Dedicated Wound Care Team
August 5, 2024
When choosing a skilled nursing facility for yourself or your loved one, for either short-term rehabilitation or long-term care, most of you want to know what the facility is like. Many times you want to know what the therapy, nursing, wound care, patient-to-staff ratio, food, and/or what type of activities and enrichment are provided for our residents. I can tell you that Park Health Center is a facility that is not only focused on comprehensive care but also strives to exceed expectations.
Today, I would like to put the spotlight on the wound care program. The people in these photos are just a few examples of our wound care success stories where we started with debridements and autolytic debridements, then wound vac therapy, and finished the healing process with skin grafts. These success stories would not have been possible without all the dedicated professionals on our team working together. This includes our nursing team which assures that all interventions are in place, with the support of x-rays, MRIs, cultures, arterial studies, and venous dopplers. These are essential tools to make sure that an appropriate and successful treatment plan can be put in place for you or your loved one.
Corey Orzolek is our wound care nurse practitioner. She goes above and beyond to ensure that the right treatment is in place, diagnostic testing is ordered, and provides hands-on care at the bedside, weekly. She has worked with Kassandra Cattran, our in-house wound care nurse, for the last 10 years. Together, they are unstoppable when it comes to providing the best care and outcomes for your loved one. They are a dedicated team, who focuses on the progress your loved one needs to heal, from beginning to end. They are accessible day and night to answer any questions our nurses and STNAs have regarding individualized treatments and provide support to all those who take part in healing you or your loved one. They truly love what they do and it shows.
If you ever have a chance to meet them and hear their passion and care for healing, it’s evident that they are of the highest caliber in their field. Kassandra states,
“We do a happy dance when someone heals. We started buying the patients t-shirts that read “It’s a beautiful day to heal wounds.” What can feel like a traumatic event in someone’s life, such as a diabetic ulcer, amputation, vascular wound, or cellulitis, for example, we will make sure to do everything we can to lift their spirits. We will push you or your loved one to want to heal and to focus on getting better because that comes from within. We focus on comprehensive care and treatment with offloading, protein, and special devices that we order to accommodate the resident specifically because each resident’s care and treatment plan is individualized to meet their specific needs.
We have recently welcomed Dr. Fijalkowski onto our wound care team. Dr. Fijalkowski is a podiatry specialist in St. Clairsville, affiliated with WVU, where he does surgeries, outpatient treatment, and in-office debridements. He has been an excellent asset to our team, addressing our patients' wounds quickly and appropriately, as well as ordering the right shoe or offloading device needed, when applicable.
We are proud to say that over the last several years, we have remained at or below 1% for in-house pressure ulcers. This would not be possible without our amazing team! We would be honored to take care of you or your loved one. When seeking excellent wound care, consider Park Health Center and their team of caring, dedicated professionals.
